Seeing Jesus in New Ways
‘This word is your life’, says Moses to the gathered crowd of God’s people. They are about to set foot in the Promised Land, and their loving, commanding leader is imploring them to choose life rather than death. They are to choose the way of the Lord, and as they do ‘life will go well’.
As we’ve been journeying through Deuteronomy, listening in on this series of pastoral sermons, I’ve found myself wanting to choose the life that is being held out. I want to love the Lord with all my heart, soul and mind, and I want God’s word to be my life. I want to walk in obedience and know that life that Moses is speaking of to these people all those years ago.
A growing desire to live for the Lord, but one that is accompanied by an increased love and thankfulness for Jesus. Being in Deuteronomy has shown me Jesus in new ways. I love that through Him my heart is circumcised, and through Him I can begin to walk wisely in the ways of the Lord. I love that through Jesus, I can let this Deuteronomy word go to work on my heart without condemnation. I love that as I stand in the freedom of Christ crucified, I can run towards the Lord, rather than away. I love that through Jesus I have this life of which Moses speaks, and I’m praising Him for extravagant life-giving grace.
